.22 Hornet (Vihtavuori Reloading Guide Edition 6)

vihtavuori’s 6th edition reloading guide includes tested data for the .22 hornet using select vihtavuori powders, with a particular focus on n110 — a fast-burning rifle powder well-suited to small-capacity cases like the hornet. the data emphasizes consistency and clean-burning characteristics, especially in bolt-action platforms with tighter chambers.

bullet weights tested ranged from 35 to 45 grains, with the 45-grain full metal jacket and soft point projectiles receiving the most detailed load data. starting charges for n110 were listed around 8.6 grains, with maximum loads reaching approximately 10.0 grains depending on bullet design and seating depth. muzzle velocities ranged from 2,100 fps to just over 2,600 fps.

vihtavuori’s testing favored lapua brass and small rifle primers throughout. the guide emphasized the importance of firm neck tension and careful case preparation to achieve repeatable ignition, noting that the hornet’s relatively thin case walls are susceptible to damage or inconsistency if improperly handled.

while n110 was the primary powder listed, the guide briefly mentioned that n120 — though slower — could also be adapted for slightly heavier bullets or longer barrels. however, data for n120 was not officially published for the hornet in this edition.

reloading notes highlighted vihtavuori’s reputation for temperature stability and low fouling — beneficial traits for high-volume varmint shooters or hunters operating in shifting weather conditions. velocity spreads were reported as narrow across most load ranges.

this edition provided a clean, technical foundation for reloaders looking to pair precision finnish powder with classic american varmint performance.
