The .22 Creedmoor has gained considerable attention in recent years for its high-velocity performance and long-range precision, especially when pushing high-BC .22 caliber bullets. While the cartridge isn’t standardized by SAAMI, load developers have carefully crafted data to maximize its potential while respecting pressure limits common to the 6.5 and .308 parent case family. The case is typically formed from 6mm or 6.5 Creedmoor brass, necked down to .224 caliber and sometimes modified in neck length and shoulder geometry depending on rifle chamber design.

Load development for the .22 Creedmoor often centers around optimizing 75–95 grain bullets, particularly the Hornady 88 ELD-M, Sierra 90 MatchKing, and Berger 85.5 Hybrid. These projectiles offer extremely high ballistic coefficients while maintaining enough bearing surface to stabilize in fast-twist barrels (typically 1:7” or faster). Achieving consistent velocities around 3,000 fps with the 88 ELD-M is common, although barrel life becomes a consideration at these speeds.

Powder choices for load development often include slower-burning options such as H4350, Reloder 16, Reloder 17, N555, and Ramshot Hunter. Many shooters favor powders that exhibit predictable temperature stability and low extreme spreads, particularly for PRS or long-range varminting. Typical load work-ups start around 38.0 grains and can exceed 42.0 grains depending on powder type and seating depth.

Careful brass preparation and chamber fit are key to safe and accurate development. Some rifles exhibit tight neck tolerances or require neck turning for optimal concentricity. Primers such as CCI BR-2 or Federal 210M are favored for consistency. When tuned correctly, the .22 Creedmoor produces remarkable vertical dispersion results beyond 600 yards—making it a top contender among non-magnum, high-velocity .22 centerfires.
