Redding Premium Dies for Handgun Cartridges

Author: Stan Trzoniec / Wolfe Publishing Co.
Date: May 22 2018

As handloaders, we are always interested in new products that will not only add to our productivity, but also accuracy in the field. To that end, when something new comes along, I immediately check it out. Redding recently introduced a new line of Premium Dies for select handgun cartridges, and for those looking for the best in precision equipment, this might be of interest.

This is a three-die set with the sizing die including a Titanium Carbide insert with a large entry and radius for high-production handloading and ease of use. Following this is a redesigned expander die, again with a wide radius entry. The parallel expander expands and trues up the case to ease the bullet's entry into the case. Additionally, this die properly aligns the bullet with the centerline of the case with an improved concentric ring that is slightly larger than the bullet diameter. Next, this new die incorporates a flare on the expander plug to open the case mouth, allowing smooth bullet seating into the case when using cast bullets.

Finally, when the proper seating depth for the best accuracy is determined, Redding includes a seating die complete with a seating micrometer for uniform overall depth of the bullet within the case.  With the ability to keep tolerances within a few thousandths of an inch, consistency is assured every time you set up your loading press. Additionally, this die can set for either a roll or taper crimp.

These Premium Die Sets are available for 9mm Luger, .38 Special /.357 Magnum, .40 S&W and 10mm Auto, .44 Special /.44 Magnum, .45 ACP and .45 Colt. While these die sets run about 40 percent more than a more conventional set, if looking for the very best in accuracy from any handgun, contact Redding at www.redding-reloading.com.
